2 cups all-purpose flour
½ cup granulated sugar
1 cup cold unsalted butter
4 cups peeled and sliced apples
1 teaspoon cinnamon
2 tablespoons lemon juice
1 cup granulated sugar (for caramel)
6 tablespoons unsalted butter (for caramel)
½ cup heavy cream
In a large bowl, combine flour and sugar. Cut in cold butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Press into a greased 9×13 inch baking pan. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 15 minutes.
In another bowl, combine sliced apples with lemon juice, cinnamon, and sugar. Toss to coat and set aside.
Spread apple mixture evenly over baked crust. Return to oven and bake for an additional 30–35 minutes.
Melt sugar for caramel over medium heat until golden brown. Remove from heat and whisk in butter and cream. Add a pinch of salt.
Allow bars to cool before drizzling with salted caramel and slicing into squares.
