2 lbs ripe tomatoes, halved
1 large onion, diced
4 cloves garlic, minced
3 tbsp olive oil
2 cups vegetable broth
1 cup fresh basil leaves
Salt and pepper to taste

Preheat the Oven: Start by preheating your oven to 400°F (200°C).
Prepare the Tomatoes: Halve the ripe tomatoes, and place them cut-side up on a baking sheet. Drizzle with 2 tablespoons of olive oil and sprinkle with salt and pepper.
Roast the Tomatoes: Roast in the preheated oven for about 25-30 minutes until they are charred and fragrant.
Sauté the Aromatics: While the tomatoes are roasting, heat the remaining tablespoon of olive oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add the diced onion and sauté for about 5 minutes until translucent, then add the minced garlic and cook for an additional 1-2 minutes.
Add Broth and Tomatoes: Once the tomatoes are done roasting, carefully add them (with their juices) to the pot along with the vegetable broth.
